Cenotes

The ancient Maya looked at the cenote as a sacred well and the Yucatán state is home to over 5,000 of these wells. What's more impressive is each cenote is connected by an intricate system of tunnels.

Sight-seeing different cenotes makes for a fantastic day-trip away and most are safe for swimming.
